We all have them, those large design eye-sores in our homes that we wish we could change, but the budget just doesn't allow us to. Maybe it's your husband's large leather sectional that he refuses to give up, or a pair of hand me down sofas, whatever the design dilemma is that you think you couldn't possibly work around, I am here to prove that YOU CAN! And on budget.
Today I am sharing my e-design client's living room design.
When she came to me she had 2 requests;
1. work around their large black leather sectional
and 2. incorporate a shiplap wall.

After discussing her and her husband's styles, we settled on a modern industrial boho farmhouse vibe. Using lots of pattern, comfortable fabrics, metal details and rustic wood tones.
Let me walk you through how to decorate around a large sectional sofa:
- Take into consideration the color and style of your sofa and work from there. If you have black for example, add in black accents elsewhere to balance out your eye from only being drawn to one large piece of furniture.
- Create a feature wall on the opposite wall that your sofa sits on; use shiplap material for example or maybe patterned wallpaper.
- If you are working with a brown sectional, add in soft whites and neutrals or even some blue hues work well to complement brown tones.
-Pattern is always a great way to draw your eye away from a large piece of furniture. Use patterned rugs and pillows to balance out a large solid surface of color.
I hope that these tips help you to design the room that you love, even when everything in it isn't exactly what you had in mind. Working with what you have isn't always as hard as you might think!
